WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A CLASS
A typical kickboxing class will start with some warm-up exercises in the form of jumping rope, lunges, and squats. From there, your instructor will lead you through a series of kicks and punches using a heavy bag. These combos are accompanied by music to keep everyone energized and excited. Once you’ve mastered the basics, you will move onto sparring techniques using pads and gloves.
The idea is to get you thinking and reacting quickly. Overall, you should be prepared to get sweaty and be challenged!
KICKBOXING VS BOXING
Boxing and kickboxing have some similarities, but are not entirely the same. For one, boxing is a competitive sport. Fighters use blocks and punches to make contact with their opponent’s head and upper body. Kickboxing is more about fitness and learning self-defense techniques. Along with throwing punches, a kickboxer also learns about high and low kicks as well as knee strikes. Kickboxing training includes a heavy bag for most of the class, which isn’t the case with boxing.
