Integrity and the Martial Arts

May 4th, 2020

Integrity is following closely a code of ethics that is aligned with character. Like having rules that we live by and conduct ourselves by. Proper martial art training has long been rooted in integrity. The code of the samurai and monks of the Shaolin temple would put their life on the line to honor their integrity. Martial arts taught back then the sole purpose was to be able to defend oneself so one can seek higher spiritual and character development. Martial arts training was a means to this end.

Integrity means being honest and trustworthy, you can believe trust some with integrity. It means being reliable and faithful, you can count on a person with integrity and expect them to do what they say they will.

It means being upright and principled in the way you act and being consistent with your actions. A person with Integrity applies his character principles at all times not just when they are convenient for them.

Integrity includes but goes beyond honesty.  Honesty is telling the truth, Integrity is matching our words to reality. Doing, acting, and following through to be the type of person we say we are.

Premier Martial Arts continues the lineage of martial arts teaching that emphasizes character traits taught in our program as much as our physical techniques. We want all students to better themselves physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Integrity is matching reality to our words – which means, keeping promises and fulfilling expectations.  Do what you say you are going to do.  Be who you say you are. Integrity is living by a moral code and shows it in our actions.

Remember what Uncle Ben told Spiderman, “With great power, come great responsibility”
